Groundbreaking Ceremony Held for New SpringHill Suites Hotel
It was a great day in Leeds, Alabama on Thursday with the official Groundbreaking Ceremony for the new SpringHill Suites by Marriott that will be under construction this year with an anticipated grand opening in May-June 2026. The hotel will be developed and managed by Jackson Hospitality Services and will be located next to the existing Hampton Inn off Rex Lake Road.

State Representative Susan DuBose Speaks at Leeds Area Chamber of Commerce Luncheon

The Leeds Area Chamber of Commerce hosted Representative Susan DuBose at its January 16th luncheon, where she highlighted significant legislative accomplishments and shared her vision for Alabama's future. The luncheon was held at First Baptist Church Leeds and sponsored by Structured Technology LLC.
Rep. DuBose praised Leeds as a fabulous community and benefiting from numerous grants. She reviewed recent legislative successes, including capping property tax increases at 7%, reducing Alabama's grocery tax from 4% to 3%, and strengthening school choice through the Choose Act, which provides up to $7K for students to transfer from schools not meeting their needs.
She discussed reforms like ensuring Title IX protections remain unchanged, requiring ID for online adult content, and safeguarding parents' rights to view their child's curriculum. Rep. DuBose noted Alabama’s designation as the most military-friendly state, with tax relief for deployed service members.
She outlined priorities such as protecting law enforcement, post-election audits, advancing religious freedoms, and addressing illegal drugs, gender definitions, and raising the medical consent age to 18.
Special thanks to Mrs. Mae Hinton, who celebrated her 88th birthday, and her team from Leeds First Methodist Church for serving the meal. Chamber diplomats Wilson Beasley, Helen Poirer, and Sophie Gromko helped with event logistics, and China Wok Leeds provided delicious Chinese fare for the 70+ attendees.

Pre-K Registration is LIVE for the 25-26 School Year! A few things to note: -You must register on the state website. -Make sure you pick Leeds Primary School as one of your sites when you register. -Our PreK Lottery will be held on Thursday, March 6, in the LPS library. The applicant deadline is Wednesday, March 5, 11:59 pm. -After you have filled out the state website, there is nothing more to do until the lottery.... but while you wait, you may want to locate your child's birth certificate, social security card, immunization records, any helpful medical records or diagnosis, as well as parent ID, any custody paperwork, and proof of residency (Rental agreement/Mortgage statement/Deed and a current utility bill.) -Once the lottery has occurred, selected students will be notified via email, and you must respond and complete all paperwork by March 20, to secure your child's spot at LPS. -Please send any further questions to Leeds Primary School Assistant Principal, Adam Truesdale.
