Well, we're winding up the month of April and May is arriving. Our schools are busy with end of the school year activities and plans. The Indy is a sold out crowd with everyone anticipating a fabulous weekend at Barber Motorsports Park. Their charity event and garage meet-up begins on Friday.
The City-Wide Prayer Breakfast is this morning at Leeds First Baptist. This is a city-wide, multi-church community event. We are privileged to have such wonderful community leaders to organize this type of event to pray for our city.
Everyone Leeds is getting traction and people are talking about us. We are becoming your local Leeds news source and we appreciate your support of our efforts to bring you Leeds Happenings each week. Our goal is to shout out the great things about Leeds, Alabama, bring you plenty of upcoming events to plug into right here in Leeds and build community.

Leeds City School Archery Banquet
Leeds City School Archery teams held their end of the season banquet on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at Leeds First Baptist Church. Coach Larry Caffee (Leeds High Coach) and Coach Carlie Swindle (Leeds Middle Coach) gave all archers a certificate of completion and recognized Emma Stidam for being top Elementary Archer at Regionals which was held in Prattville, AL on March18, 2022. The Coaches also recognized the 2022 seniors: Ashlyn Kay, Juan Diaz-Torres, and Kamelia Lewis. Ken Harrell was announced as the newest Elementary Volunteer Coach for fourth and fifth graders.
The banquet was organized by Pam and Eddie Saunier. Other archer parents that volunteered to help were: Randi Funderburg, Jamie Stidham, Ken and Lacey Harrell, Amanda and Justin Kontzen, Angela Bryant, and Bre Ford. Food was prepared by Mr. Rusty Stark. Flowers were donated by Dori Luca Designs.
Any Leeds City School Student grades 4-12 who are interested in joining can contact Coach Caffee (lcaffee@leedsk12.org) or Coach Swindle (cswindle@leedsk12.org) for more information. There will be an Archery Camp during the summer. More information will be announced later.

Leeds Area Chamber of Commerce Hosts Alabama Governor Kay Ivey
The Leeds Area Chamber of Commerce was so honored to host our Alabama State Governor Kay Ivey to speak at their April chamber luncheon to talk about projects our state government is working on to continue to improve our quality of life here from our schools to jobs, low unemployment and more. The Governor attended the luncheon at the invitation of State Representative Dickie Drake who serves the Leeds area and she received a warm welcome with approximately 200 attending. For the blast this week: We are so excited to be having our first book signing at The Wooden Anchor. Paul & Harriet Lawrence will be with us May 7, 11:00-2:00 autographing and selling their book Going to School in Gaza. Paul was born and raised in Leeds and attended Samford University as well as UAB for further degrees. Harriet is from the Birmingham area and attended Auburn University. In 1985, they moved with their two young children to the Gaza Strip in response to God’s call on their lives and lived there 30 years. In their book, Going to School in Gaza, they share some of their stories and what they learned.

Summer Student Theatre Workshop
Leeds Arts Council is pleased to announce that Matilda the Musical Jr. is the show chosen for the Summer Student Theater Workshop for students in grades 2-12. The workshop will be held June 6-19 at the Leeds Theater and Arts Center, in downtown Leeds. The workshop is a two-week workshop, with students attending 8 am to 12 noon, Monday through Friday. There will be four performances: Friday June 17 at 7 pm, Saturday June 18 at 2 pm and 7 pm, and Sunday June 19 at 2 pm. The director is Michael Bridges, award-winning drama director at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic School.
