We Bid Farwell to a Man Who Helped So Many!

John Pattereson_600

Our hearts go out to the John Patterson family during this time of loss. John Patterson was a pillar of this community. He served Leeds for many years and will be greatly missed!
Here is a social media message from Eric:

My dad’s visitation will be this Thursday from 12-2 at Cedar Grove Church. The funeral will be at 2:00 immediately following visitation. I really appreciate all the kind words people have said about my dad and all the offers of help and support. It makes me very happy that he had such a positive effect on so many people. You don’t know what it means to us to hear such heartfelt stories. He truly loved people and loved being around everyone.

My father passed away very peacefully. I’ve never known anyone who loved people and lived life so fully. He was a great father and husband. He was married for 62 years and worked side by side with my mother for over 50 years. He was sitting up and talking and smiling in photos within the last 30 days. He was happy almost to the end. He loved my mother so much and I know his greatest regret was having to leave her. He would not want people to grieve for him but to remember him and his experiences he had with them personally, socially and professionally. He would want people to remember who he was and how he treated them. He would want to be remembered for his smile and his character and how he treated my mother. He would want people to celebrate his life and not mourn his death. We will all miss him so much. He drove, worked and even flew a plane into his 90’s. He traveled to Iceland just 6 years ago. He still danced in a dance club up to last April. I know he held on for my mom so he would want everyone who loved and cared for him to please be there for her. I don’t know the arrangements yet, but I know he would love to say bye to everyone he could if he was able. Thanks for all the visits, flowers, cards, food and notes, they meant a lot to us.

Chief Paul Irwin swore in Michael Green and Greg Kyle, two new police officers, on behalf of the Leeds Police Department at the Council meeting on Monday night. The energy was great and the game was so fun. Everyone in attendance seemed to enjoy the game. Both teams showed up to win and played an excellent game. The Police Dept answered the calls by scoring a series of 3-pointers by Det. Wilson. The Fire Dept responded by shutting Wilson down in the last quarter, taking a 10-point lead to win the game. Both teams showed excellent sportsmanship throughout the game for a good cause. The total proceeds with admissions, concessions and donations were $590. This fundraiser was to help raise money for the band's Pearl Harbor trip. If you would like to make a donation, please contact Band Booster President, Laura Roberts, at lhsbbo@gmail.com or Band Director, Chip Wise, at (205) 699-4510. The mailing address for the Band Booster Organization is PO Box 1211, Leeds, AL 35094.

Leeds Outreach Volunteers are Working Diligently Preparing Christmas Gifts for Pickup

The Leeds Outreach team of volunteers are working diligently in Leeds First Baptist gym preparing Christmas gifts for pickup this week. So many people have been so generous to donate money, gifts and sponsor children to make sure that they have a good Christmas. The group photo includes only a portion of the volunteers who work countless hours all year long to take care of benevolent needs in the city. We truly appreciate what they do.
