My Story Town Meets at The Livery
Leeds Jane Culbreth Library hosted their February My Story Town event at The Livery Event Center. The Livery Owner, Linda Miller, and historian, Randy Ray, of Leeds Historical Society shared some of the history and significance of this building. The Livery was originally an actual livery stable where people brought their horses to have them cared for while they were in town during the horse and buggy days. It was important that the livery was close to the train depot and the old Hagwood Hotel next door where visitors could stay overnight. Ms. Miller shared that her parents stayed at the Hagwood Hotel on their honeymoon so she was happy to have the opportunity to own that property now. Mr. Ray shared some old photos of what the buildings looked like during that era as well as photos of people of Leeds. Library Programs and Events Coordinator, Annette McGuire, shared a story time and a musical game. Leeds Area Chamber of Commerce Director, Sandra McGuire, led the children in the song, Old McDonald had a Farm. Some of the children asked really good questions during the Q&A time. One of the question was, "Why do horses wear shoes?" Everyone had a great time and it was a good learning experience for the children.
