The Grand Opening Weekend – Play for Purpose!
To start off with a bang and a worthy cause, FUNBOX® is launching its comeback with $18 per ticket if purchased online and $22 at the door February 28, with a portion of the proceeds going to support two local foster organizations: Heart Gallery Alabama and Garret’s Place.
- Heart Gallery Alabama identifies youth in foster care and links them with important mentors who assist them in achieving stability and direction.
- Garret’s Place offers essential products like suitcases, clothing, books, toys, and school supplies to foster children when they enter new homes.
This is close to the heart of FUNBOX® co-founder Antonio Nieves, who spent his childhood in the foster system and has a clear understanding of the difficulties that lie within. In line with its mission to contribute to the community, FUNBOX® gives back $1 from every ticket purchased during the opening weekend to a local foster organization and offers a private, free session for foster children in these programs. The group dedicated their morning to unloading our pod container, meticulously organizing formula, and lending a helping hand in countless ways! Ann’s was profoundly blessed by their remarkable kindness!

Leeds City Schools - Hovercraft Day 1 - Today three 5th grade classes from Leeds Elementary School had the opportunity of a lifetime to build, test, and ride their own hovercraft. Yes, a hovercraft! This incredible experience was possible thanks to a grant LES received from the Alabama Power Foundation. The students worked in small groups, encouraged each other, reflected, powered through setbacks, experienced productive struggle, and got to see their hard work come to life. Based on the joy in this video, I'd say they enjoyed it. Some teachers & central office workers even joined in on the fun! Tomorrow the other half of 5th grade (Webb, Coker, Williams) will have the same experience. Don't worry, there will be videos and pictures tomorrow as well! The Hovercraft Project

Check out the YouTube video with Winnie May Spruiell Carlisle, better known as "Aunt Winnie" to the residents of Leeds, Alabama served as the librarian for the city from 1931 to 1967. Aunt Winnie never drove a car, instead preferred to ride her bicycle from home to the library and other parts of town. To learn more about Winnie Carlisle, please make plans to attend the Historic 1950's Walking Tour of downtown Leeds, Alabama which takes place on Saturday April 12, 2025 from 10:00am to 1:30pm. The rain date will be April 26, 2025 if necessary.

Bingo for Charity | Leeds Civic Center
BINGO is this Friday, February 21 at Leeds Civic Center. Doors open at 5 pm. Games start at 6 pm. Bring an additional friend (not someone who always comes with you) and receive a free bingo card. Cards are 3 for $20. Each additional card is $5. We play 6 games with a 15-minute break after game three when we do a slew of door prizes and the 60/40 drawing. We typically have you out the door no later than 7:45 pm. This event is hosted by the Knights of Columbus Leeds Council 5507 and is one of their major charity fundraisers.

City of Valor’s Got Talent Fundraiser Event
The Leeds community is invited to showcase their talents for a great cause at the upcoming City of Valor’s Got Talent event, hosted by Miss Leeds Area Samantha Hennings. This exciting talent competition will take place at 6:00 p.m. on March 1, 2025 at the Leeds High School auditorium.
The event, part of Samantha’s Willing Hearts Devoted to Heroes community service initiative, aims to raise funds for The Red Barn in Leeds, supporting programs for veterans suffering from PTSD.
“This event will provide opportunities for individuals or groups of all ages from across the state to display their talents for a great cause,” Hennings shared. “The proceeds will support The Red Barn, which recently trained staff through Columbia University’s ‘Man of War’ program to better serve veterans in need.”
Talented individuals and groups of all ages are encouraged to register by February 19 for a $50 entry fee, while audience members can attend for $10 at the door. The competition will feature three age divisions: 12 & under, 13-25, and 26 & older, with cash prizes for top winners. Samantha is seeking sponsors to help fund the prize awards, with contributions still needed for first, second, and third-place winners, as well as a Crowd Favorite Award. Local business Central Alabama Sign & Trophy donated awards for the winners.
