City of Leeds Kicks Off IMAGINE Leeds Comprehensive Plan Process
City of Leeds launched IMAGINE Leeds with its first community meeting to share information about the new comprehensive plan process on Thursday night, January 11. This meeting was a workshop style held at Leeds High School and attendees had an opportunity to give input into what they would like to see happen for the future of Leeds, Alabama. Mayor David Miller shared a few words and representatives from Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC) led the workshop. This is the first of several meetings that will be scheduled this year.
“We had our kick-off meeting this evening for what I think is going to be a wonderful long-term development program. The product that will come out of this will be a comprehensive plan for the city. No Plan can be made in a vacuum and that's exactly what this meeting’s about tonight, is to involve the citizens and what they want to see Leeds be as we move along.
This is a program that was set up quite some time ago. As y’all know, this administration is about progress and growth, but sustainable growth, ecologically appropriate growth, and what we really want to do is hear what the citizens have got to say about how we're doing, where we're going, what you would like to see for us to do in the future.
We have a great future. We've got a lot of potential and we're talking about just the best way to actually use what we have lying in front of us. We’ve done a lot in the last 11 years of this administration. We’ve got twenty years in our sight. This is something that will be the guiding document for the foreseeable future.
This plan is going to look into just about every aspect of what goes on in a municipality. We’re talking about education, about business development. We’re talking about infrastructure, anything that you can think of that makes up the municipality is going to be addressed as part of this plan. It will be our guiding document, as I say, and one of the things that Leeds has that a lot of places don’t have is that we still have a beautiful downtown. We have the outlying shops on the edge of town. We have major investments in attractions such as, well we have to mention Buc-ee’s. You can't talk about Leeds without talking about Buc-ee’s, but we have the Bass Pro Shops and we have Barber Motorsports on our edge," shared Mayor Miller.
The Comprehensive Plan is an action-oriented city-wide planning process to make Leeds a better place to Live, Work, and Play. It is a plan developed by our citizens for our citizens, which addresses a wide variety of issues, including land use, transportation, housing, recreation, economic development, and much more. IMAGINE Leeds is a public process and the city wants input from as many citizens as possible. In addition to the in-person meetings and workshops, residents can provide input via an online survey. Anyone can complete the survey to share thoughts, ideas and wishes of what they would like to see in Leeds, Alabama.
For more information about Imagine Leeds, access other video interviews and link to the online survey, please visit https://leedsalabama.org/leeds-launched-imagine-leeds/
Leeds Area Chamber of Commerce Kicks Off National Leap of Kindness Day Campaign
Celebrate an Extra Day this Year and Do Something Kind
The Leeds Area Chamber of Commerce invites you to participate in National Leap of Kindness Day in the City of Leeds this year on Leap Day, February 29, 2024. This kindness campaign was invented by the Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce in 2016. The idea was to inspire their members and community to use their extra day that Leap Year to do something kind for someone else, and hundreds of local organizations helped thousands of local people on February 29, 2016. The Leap of Kindness Day was even bigger and better in 2020 as more than 200 chambers in the US, Canada, and Ireland joined the Saratoga County efforts and organized their own celebrations in addition to the efforts of Saratoga County.
Get Involved
The Chamber invites local businesses, municipalities, organizations and individuals to join this kindness movement and get involved, donate your time, talent and treasure to help others including local charities, churches, non-profit organizations and to thank first responders, teachers, school bus drivers, Veterans and others in honor of this day.
Choose Your Kindness Act or Project
Our goal is for you to choose a kindness act or project that is dear to your heart or from a growing list of needs that will be compiled for this six-week campaign. To get your creative spirit going in thinking of the possibilities, some of our Leeds area non-profit organizations are listed on our website for you to consider.
If You Are a Charity or Non-Profit
If you are a local non-profit organization, please share with us what your organization needs so we can add your request to our list.
If You Are a Business, Municipality or Individual
If you are a local business, municipality, organization or individual that would like to participate in this kindness campaign, please let us know what specific act(s) of kindness you decide to do. These efforts will be posted to our website so the world can see the kindness projects that are happening right here in Leeds, Alabama.
We will also be sharing this information on our social media regularly.
How to Respond
You can visit the Chamber website at https://leedsareachamber.com for more information and to utilize the kindness form provided to send your needs list or your chosen kindness project. You may also send this information by email to Diane Poole at diane.leedsareachamber@gmail.com.

While exercise may be the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about recovery, food is a factor that should not be overlooked. Ensuring your body has the proper nutrition during recovery is crucial for efficient healing and enhanced focus. Vitamin C, omega-3 fats, and protein are essential for the body's repair and cell activity. Luckily, incorporating these nutrients into your diet is easy with foods like fruits, fatty fish, and meats. There are plenty of guides, resources, and tools to evaluate and create a healthy diet that will help you, including the CDC's Dietary Guidelines for Americans. https://bit.ly/3RQIyho
