Knights of Columbus Leeds Council #5597 donates $10,500 to local charities
Knights of Columbus Leeds Council #5597 works hard all throughout the year to raise money for local charities and is off to an exciting start with the new year to make a difference in the lives of others. This group just gave a total of $10,500 to local charities and non-profit organizations including Little Sisters of the Poor, KC Ultrasound, The Red Barn, Moody Miracle League, Ann's New Life Center, Leeds Outreach, Backpack Buddies of Leeds, St. Barnabas Food Bank, St. Joseph's Indian School, Our Lady of the Lake prison ministries, Her Choice Birmingham Women's Center and Guadalupe Radio with the most recent donation going to the Leeds High School marching band towards their Pearl Harbor trip coming up soon.
How does this organization raise money? One of their major fundraisers is Bingo which is held twice a month at Leeds Civic Center. Another fundraiser is their annual beach giveaway. You will also see them periodically with a table in front of Food Giant, Walmart and other areas around Leeds for their tootsie roll drive which raises money for local school classrooms of special needs students.
Knights of Columbus Leeds Council #5597 is a Catholic men's charitable organization and those who have an interest are encouraged to take a closer look. For more information, please call 205.542.0671 and leave a message for Don Tice.
Leeds Native Debbie Childers is Guest Speaker at Chamber Luncheon
Leeds Native Debbie Childers was the guest speaker at the January meeting of the Leeds Area Chamber of Commerce. Childers is a professional speaker, humorist and author. She kept everyone entertained with her humor and stories of Leeds.
“People have made Leeds a place for younger people to call home and for older people to come home,” Speaker, Humorist, Author Debbie Childers.
Lunch was catered by Rusty’s Bar-B-Que with hamburger steak, gravy and onions, mashed potatoes, green beans and banana pudding.

Let’s take a moment to thank our Leeds Fire & Rescue & Leeds Alabama Police Department for their valiant efforts responding to the devastating fire at the beautiful old church on Ashville Road and keeping the community safe. We appreciate all you do.
Leeds Main Street said what we all feel in our hearts. Everyone is saddened by the loss of the empty church and has many memories that will live on. This was a horrific fire and everyone responded in brave and gallant way. Thank you!!!
The remaining structure is unsafe and everyone is asked to stay away from the area. The sidewalk is currently closed in front of the building.

Leeds Trails and Tours Team Members Are Growing
Leeds Trails and Tours committee held their first 2024 meeting this week to discuss their progress in planning the next downtown walking tour which is scheduled for Saturday, April 13, 2024 (rain date: April 20). Details are beginning to get exciting and committee teams are growing as the stories of Leeds in the year 1940 unfold. Approximately 30 people filled the library meeting room as the walk organizer, Randy Ray, covered a comprehensive agenda and team leaders shared their progress reports.
If you have not visited their Facebook or Instagram page yet, you are encouraged to visit and Like their pages. There is also a Facebook group for anyone interested in working on a team or assisting with the historical research and sharing of stories of yesteryear called "1940 Leeds AL Walk Research and Gossip Page". Celebrate an Extra Day This Year and Do Something Kind
The Leeds Area Chamber of Commerce invites you to participate in National Leap of Kindness Day in the City of Leeds this year on Leap Day, February 29, 2024. We invite local businesses, municipalities, organizations and individuals to join this kindness movement and get involved, donate your time, talent and treasure to help others including local charities, churches, non-profit organizations and to thank first responders, teachers, school bus drivers, Veterans and others in honor of this day.
Choose Your Kindness Act or Project - Our goal is for you to choose a kindness act or project that is dear to your heart or from a growing list of needs that will be compiled for this six-week campaign. To get your creative spirit going in thinking of the possibilities, some of our Leeds area non-profit organizations are listed on our website for you to consider.
If you are a local non-profit organization, please share with us what your organization needs so we can add your request to our list. If you are a local business, municipality, organization or individual that would like to participate in this kindness campaign, please let us know what specific act(s) of kindness you decide to do.
These efforts will be posted to our website so the world can see the kindness projects that are happening right here in Leeds, Alabama. We will also be sharing information on our social media regularly.
