Congratulations Advance America Leeds on Your Ribbon Cutting to Celebrate New Business Model
Leeds Area Chamber of Commerce and the City of Leeds, Alabama held a ribbon cutting on Friday at Advance America Leeds. Mayor David Miller cut the ribbon along with a group of Leeds area business professionals and chamber board members to celebrate Advance America’s business model transition. This company no longer offers title loans or payday loans, but now offers regular installment loans at affordable interest rates with flexible payment terms. Mayor Miller spoke a few words to personally congratulate them on their new business model. Advance America store manager, Candice Turner, shared more information about their company and what they now offer.
“We’re tickled that you (Advance America Leeds) have reorganized and are staying here in Leeds so welcome again. Our philosophy is that Leeds is open for business and since we've been in the office, we’ve brought in over 80 new businesses or expanded businesses to Leeds. This is just another example. We are on the move, we are financially sound and we welcome anyone that will love to come to a good business environment,” said Mayor Miller.

2024 Electronics Drop off Event Had a Great Turnout in Spite of a Little Rain!
Thanks to all who came out in the rain Saturday for the Electronics Drop Off Day! It was an amazing turn out, with well over 500 vehicles. Staff from Jefferson County Roads and Transportation Department, Camp Ketona, and General Services helped work the event. Other partner organizations were well represented and assisted as well. Partners included people from the City of Bessemer, City of Leeds, City of Birmingham, Birmingham Zoo, Inc., Alabama Cooperative Extension System, and sorority members from AKA.
When our local municipalities work together to provide an event like this, it's a win for all. Thank you, City of Leeds, for participating to provide this service for our residents!

January is coming to an end, and February is here! During February we will be participating in the City of Leeds “National Leap of Kindness Day.” The day is celebrated on February 29. Since we have an extra day, it’s the perfect opportunity to celebrate by doing something kind. Watch for more details. Don’t forget Groundhog Day, February 2. No shadow means an early Spring! A big thank you to Miss Jefferson County, Emma Terry, who came to all counseling classes today at Leeds Elementary School to raise awareness for ALS! She has asked the students to participate in her community service initiative to create Valentine’s Day cards for Veterans at the VA.

Leeds Creek Bank Festival will celebrate 29 years this year and the festival is scheduled for Saturday, May 18, with a rain date of May 25 at Leeds Memorial Park hosted by Leeds Area Chamber of Commerce and the City of Leeds, Alabama. Vendor applications are pouring in and plans are underway for another fabulous festival. What is Your Project for the National Leap of Kindness Day Campaign
Celebrate an Extra Day This Year and Do Something Kind
The Leeds Area Chamber of Commerce invites you to participate in National Leap of Kindness Day in the City of Leeds this year on Leap Day, February 29, 2024. We invite local businesses, municipalities, organizations and individuals to join this kindness movement and get involved, donate your time, talent and treasure to help others including local charities, churches, non-profit organizations and to thank first responders, teachers, school bus drivers, Veterans and others in honor of this day.
Choose Your Kindness Act or Project - Our goal is for you to choose a kindness act or project that is dear to your heart or from a growing list of needs that will be compiled for this six-week campaign. To get your creative spirit going in thinking of the possibilities, some of our Leeds area non-profit organizations are listed on our website for you to consider.
If you are a local non-profit organization, please share with us what your organization needs so we can add your request to our list. If you are a local business, municipality, organization or individual that would like to participate in this kindness campaign, please let us know what specific act(s) of kindness you decide to do.
These efforts will be posted to our website so the world can see the kindness projects that are happening right here in Leeds, Alabama. We will also be sharing information on our social media regularly.

Here are some non-profit organization needs if you are looking for a Leap Day project or act of kindness:
- Leeds Arts Council has a need for someone to help with pulling weeds on the side and the back of the arts council building.
- Leeds Lions Club needs donations of your old eyeglasses. Also, the club is open to new members who may have an interest in joining a great volunteer organization.
- For the Leap Day campaign, most needed items at Leeds Outreach are: Trash bags, Toilet paper, Laundry detergent. We also have an ongoing volunteer opportunity on Mondays from approximately from 12-3 unloading and storing milk. If you know anyone that would be interested please have them contact us.
- Items still needed for Leeds Backpack Buddies. Please drop off at the chamber office or First Methodist Church. 55 of each are still needed. Thank you to those that have already dropped off! We appreciate you! Shampoo. Bar Soap. Toothpaste. Toothbrush. Deodorant.
