Leeds Police Department Makes Arrest in Illegal Gambling Operation
Leeds Police Department discovered an illegal gambling operation which resulted in the arrest of Thomas Jeffery Bynum, age 56 of Leeds, Alabama. On July 20, 2023, Detectives with the Operations Support Unit (OSU), along with Leeds SWAT team conducted a search warrant in the 7100 Block of Elliott Lane in reference to an illegal gambling operation investigation. During the search, Detectives located five illegal gambling machines, U.S. Currency and two handguns. Mr. Bynum was arrested and charged with five counts of Possession of a Gambling Device and one count of Promoting Gambling. Read full article

It was a pleasure hosting our guest speakers on Thursday at the Leeds Area Chamber of Commerce July meeting. Don Smith, Executive Director of St. Clair County Economic Development Council, and Blair Goodgame, Director of St. Clair County Tourism did a phenomenal job sharing information about economic development and tourism in St. Clair County. Blair challenged us all to think differently about tourism and the possibilities of educating our current residents as well as attracting new people to our area. Thank you, Don, Blair and your entire team for all they do for St. Clair County and the greater Leeds area. With Leeds, Alabama being a tri-county city as part of Jefferson, St. Clair and Shelby counties, we appreciate what St. Clair County EDC does to include us. Two brothers set out to write the world’s first musical in this hilarious mash-up of sixteenth-century Shakespeare and twenty-first-century Broadway. The original Broadway production ran at the St. James Theatre from April 22, 2015, to Jan. 1, 2017. It received 10 Tony nominations including Best Musical. We have a new program for everyone to take advantage of on Mondays at 3pm-4pm called Good Vibes Mondays - Sisie, Self-Care & Share at the Leeds Jane Culbreth Library. Come every Monday this summer to meet Sisie, the therapy dog and her trainer, Gary. Sisie is an Athalon Shepard Mix. Gary adopted Sisie, who was found homeless on the streets of Central Alabama. As a trainer, Gary could tell that Sisie loved people. So, Sisie went to school to be a therapy dog and became an AKC good citizen! We want our members to have an opportunity to meet Sisie because she works at the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth Airport to help calm anxious airplane passengers before their flight.
