EL July Independence Day_600

Happy 4th of July - Independence Day from Everyone Leeds

Have a safe and happy holiday as we celebrate America and the ratification of the Declaration of Independence!!

The Kiddie Day Parade at Leeds Memorial Park was a Huge Success!!

The Leeds Area Chamber of Commerce held the 3rd Annual Kiddie Day Parade on Saturday at Leeds Memorial Park. Kids and their parents had a great time. These kids decorated their bicycles, tricycles and other rides to celebrate the kick-off of our Independence Day holiday week and rode in a parade at the walking track in the park. The kids made several rounds around the park enjoying their decorated rides. Winners for the Parade's Best Decorated Rides were: 1st Place: Kaycee Croxford 2nd Place: Venity Horton 3rd Place: Liam Deweese Most Patriotic Parent: Emily Swader Thank you to everyone who came out for a great time together this morning! Thank you to our volunteers: Sandra McGuire, Casey Parsons and Dona Bonnett. Thank you to Casey Parsons Team - Guild Mortgage for providing free fans and popsicles. The chamber provided awards and holiday swag.

"Great fun had today in Leeds at the 2024 Kiddie Day Parade! Thank you to all of the kiddos, parents, and volunteers who braved the heat and humidity to make this event possible! It was a hard pick for the winners this year, but we look forward to next year!!" shared Casey. For more photos from this event, please visit the Chamber Facebook page.

City of Leeds Public Works Conducts Total Clean Up at I-20 Exit 140 Under Bridges

The City of Leeds Public Works Department recently undertook a comprehensive cleanup effort under the bridges at I-20 Exit 140 on Highway 78, both eastbound and westbound, throughout the month of June. This significant project involved the removal of overgrown bushes, trees, grass, and debris from the sides of the road under both bridges and in front of the mall. Despite this area not being the direct responsibility of the City of Leeds, the Public Works team recognized its importance in shaping the first impression of visitors entering the city. The cleanup effort included removing small trees and grass that had taken root in the cracks of the concrete and along the roadway shoulders where water flow had deposited seeds. Additionally, trash was collected and the limb truck was utilized to dispose of the debris. Public Works Supervisor Johnny Warren commented, “This is a busy spot with a lot of traffic coming in and out of our city and we want to keep this area looking good for our visitors!” The City of Leeds expresses its gratitude to the Public Works Department for their diligent work and ongoing contributions to the city's overall well-being. Their efforts not only enhance the city's appearance, but also reflect the community's commitment to maintaining a welcoming environment for all who visit.

Helping Others

Blessing Box | The Episcopal Church of the Epiphany

Community Outreach. We’re known around the community as the church with the big red box. This is our blessing box. The blessing box is where all may be blessed, those that have needs and those who have something to share. The church fills it, our members fill it, and the community fills it. There are no restrictions on who may take food from the box. Anyone who is hungry is welcome. Our only request is that those who need food take just enough for a day or two and leave some for others. In addition to the blessing box, have a free library. Leave a book. Take a book. (Children’s books are very popular.) As part of our food ministry, Epiphany also supports Leeds Outreach. Because some of our members encouraged us, we also support The Wellhouse and The Lovelady Center, and other charities that speak to any of our members from time to time.

The Episcopal Church of the Epiphany

Leeds Outreach

What began as a few churches getting together in 1994 to form a volunteer organization to meet the benevolent needs of the Leeds area called Leeds Welfare Cooperative has become Leeds Outreach, a 501c3 non-profit organization that helps families in Leeds, Alabama with food, utilities, medicine, school supplies and Christmas assistance.

For over 30 years, Leeds Outreach has worked solely with volunteers and to date has no paid staff members, rent or other bills so 100% of your donation goes directly to assisting those in need throughout our community.

We invite you to partner with us by your monetary or food donations as well as consider joining our volunteer team to carry out this important work. Your support and contributions enable us to meet our goals. Your generous donation will fund our mission. Monetary donations allow us to buy what is needed, in the quantity needed, when needed.

LHSB-meal-sponsors-needed

Meal Sponsors Needed | Leeds Band Boosters

The Leeds High School Band Boosters has approximately 50% of their meals sponsored for the band. This non-profit organization will need 10 meals to cover the regular football and competition season and we are still looking for sponsors.

We provide drinks, an entree, dessert and a side for 120 people for every game and competition. It is important to feed our band students before away games and competitions. Band students go directly from school to away game preparations so they do not go home and eat. Band Boosters feed them so they have fuel for the game. For competitions, band students have a long day of practice, travel, and performance so these students must have fuel to represent Leeds well. Meal sponsors are also needed for away games during the playoffs, but we don't have those dates yet.

Meals may be sponsored by providing money (and the Band Boosters will order and prepare the meal) or by bringing the meal to the band. More than one person, business, or group can sponsor a meal to share the cost. Sponsors are publicly thanked on our Facebook page and the Band app (for band parents and students).

Thanks so much for your help!!!
