Daddy-Daughter Western Party 2024
Check out the line dancing on Thornton Avenue!! Our 2024 Daddy-Daughter Western Party this weekend hosted by the Leeds Area Chamber of Commerce was a huge success. Over 150 people participated in this special spring event which created the perfect daddy-daughter date night for a huge crowd! From line dancing in the street to balloon artists, fairy face painters, games, root beer floats, special flowers for the young ladies, western selfie-wall, and plenty of food including hot dogs, Chick-fil-A nuggets, cow tails and so much more…not to mention our awesome DJ, it was a fabulous evening, and the weather was perfect! We appreciate all of our volunteers including our Chamber of Commerce Board Members and Ambassadors and everyone who came out for a boot-stomping great time!! If you went to Leeds at any time in your school journey, we are asking if you would like, to bring a framed picture of yourself doing something good. This can be you at your job, you with your family, or you are doing something for the greater good of humanity. Hi everybody, this is Chuck Parsons, Fire Chief for the City of Leeds Fire Department here for some safety tips for the springtime. We know spring’s coming around and we'll be using lawnmowers, weed eaters, and picking up debris around the house so I’ve got some safe tips for you. In this video, we will cover: - GASOLINE SAFETY - YEAR-ROUND NO BURN ORDINANCE - GRILLING SAFETY - KEEP DEBRIS AWAY FROM YOUR HOME - CHECK SMOKE DETECTORS REGULARLY - CHECK CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTORS REGULARLY, TOO! - HAVE HOME EMERGENCY PLAN IN CASE OF FIRE - LEEDS FIRE DEPARTMENT CAN HELP YOU WITH SMOKE DETECTORS. If you need smoke detectors or you need us to check them, call us. We have smoke detectors through grants from the Red Cross and Alabama Fire College. You can ask us to come check your smoke detectors or you would like smoke detectors installed and we'll arrange to have that done. There's a number you can call: 205-699-2581, listen for the options, the first thing it's going to say is IF YOU HAVE AN EMERGENCY, CALL 9-1-1. It's going to list options for different departments, listen for the fire department, and choose that option for the fire department. If we do not answer that number, leave a message. THAT IS NOT AN EMERGENCY NUMBER. It’s an admin non-emergency number for us so when we're out on calls or doing things, sometimes, we're not able to answer that number, leave a message. Every chess player knows that if you lose your game then you need to make changes for your next chess game. This is also true in life. I had made plans to hold a Bughouse Chess Tournament however, I have picked up 22+ new chess players at MaES and they would not be ready in two weeks to play Bughouse Chess. So, our chess tournament at the Leeds Jane Culbreth Library on March 26, 2024, will be a "regular" not-rated chess tournament. I will have new flyers out later today. Thank you, for understanding. Creek Bank Festival Now Accepting Vendor Applications
Leeds Creek Bank Festival will celebrate 29 years this year and the festival is scheduled for Saturday, May 18, with a rain date of May 25 at Leeds Memorial Park hosted by Leeds Area Chamber of Commerce and the City of Leeds, Alabama. Vendor applications are pouring in and plans are underway for another fabulous festival. Summer Camps | Leeds Arts Council
Calling all campers!! Spots for our summer camps are filling up fast and you don’t want to miss all the fun we are going to have in June. Annie Jr camp directed by Josh McDaniel will run June 3rd through 16th. Mean Girls Jr camp directed by Allie Piccu will run June 17th through June 30th. Tuition is $225 per camp with a $25 discount for additional siblings. Scholarships and financial aid are available. In Honor of National Leap of Kindness Day, adr Business & Marketing Strategies is collecting eyeglasses for Leeds Lions Club!
If you have any old eyeglasses that you would like to donate, please contact Dona Bonnett at 256.345.3993 to arrange pickup or you can drop them off at the chamber office or in the night drop box outside the chamber office at 7901 Parkway Drive.
Please note that Dona Bonnett and adr Business & Marketing Strategies will be collecting eyeglasses through March 31, 2024 so there’s plenty of time to schedule a pickup and Leeds Lions Club accepts reading glasses as well as prescription glasses.
This is a great way to recycle those eyeglasses that you no longer need.
