Leeds Area Chamber Hosted 30th Annual Creek Bank Festival on Saturday
The Leeds Area Chamber of Commerce hosted its 30th Annual Creek Bank Festival on Saturday, May 24. The festival had been postponed from its original date of May 17 due to the threat of rain.
There were dozens and dozens of vendors at the event where festival-goers could purchase crafts, learn about area businesses and non-profits, and even get a mini-massage. There were also a large number of food vendors providing a variety of international and domestic dishes and cold sweet treats with something for just about everybody! The entertainment lineup kicked off with Heath Green and Adam Guthrie, new to Creek Bank and ready to energize the crowd. Other performers at the festival included singer/songwriter/instrumentalist Lynnox Poe, and Miss Leeds Area, Samantha Hennings, who graced the event with a beautiful vocal performance. Terry Padgett, back by popular demand, provided an excellent Elvis tribute to wow the crowd.
The Hula Hoop Competition sponsored by Bob Watkins Realty was a whirlwind of excitement and fun! Participants of all ages showcased their skills and dazzled the crowd with their impressive moves. From beginners to seasoned pros, everyone brought their A-game to the competition. There was a lot of energy as contestants twirled, spun, and danced to the beat of the music. Congratulations to the winning hula-hooper, Jillian Huckeba.
A tail-wagging good time was had at the dog pageant, sponsored by Mum & Me Mercantile LLC! From adorable outfits to impressive tricks, the furry contestants stole the spotlight and captured everyone’s hearts. It was a battle of the barks as our canine companions strutted their stuff in several categories. Congratulations to the winners who paw-sitively dazzled the judges with their charm and charisma! The winners were: Gwennie, Best Small Dog; Jack, Best Large Dog; Charisma, Best Costume; and Goose, Best Overall. The winners received a medal and a chew toy. Also, thank you to Chick-fil-A, who donated gift cards for the winners’ owners.
The Creek Bank Festival hosted a hotdog eating contest sponsored by Stephen’s Hotdogs and More. Cheers and applause filled the air as contestants devoured their hotdogs. It was a race against time and a battle of appetites as competitors vied for the title of Hotdog Eating Champion. Congratulations to Police Chief Paul Erwin, who chowed down on five hotdogs in the allotted time.
Other highlights included face painting (sponsored by The Shops of Grand River), balloon art (sponsored by Mills Pharmacy), bounce houses, pony rides, and a petting zoo. The Cruising the Creek Bank Car Show, sponsored by C & C Motor Co., drew over 280 cars and raised over $7K for Backpack Buddies and Leeds Outreach.

Leeds Historical Society Celebrates Heritage and Heroes Over Memorial Day Weekend

The Leeds Historical Society hosted two meaningful and engaging events during the May 24–25 weekend, welcoming dozens of visitors as part of the City’s Memorial Day observances and the annual Creek Bank Festival.
On Saturday, May 24, the Society set up an engaging exhibit at the Leeds Creek Bank Festival at Leeds Memorial Park, located on Montevallo Road—the historic route of the Ashville to Montevallo Postal Stagecoach Line, which operated from the 1820s to the 1850s. The Society showcased a replica of a 19th-century stagecoach and an interpretive display that shared the history of this vital early transportation route. The stagecoach, symbolic of the Society itself, served as a compelling visual reminder of Leeds’ foundational role in Alabama’s development.
Also on Saturday, the Leeds Historical Society Museum, located in the historic J.W. Bass House at 1129 Montevallo Road, was open to the public. Many Creek Bank Festival attendees took the opportunity to tour the museum and learn more about Leeds’ rich cultural, industrial, and civic past.
On Sunday, May 25, the museum hosted Aubry Mabery, a Girl Scout Gold Award candidate from Leeds Troop 30234, who led a special program honoring local veterans. Aubry developed a "Veterans Scavenger Hunt" that helped visitors explore stories and contributions of Leeds-area military personnel. The interactive experience featured both written accounts and digital video tributes, providing a moving and educational journey through the museum’s Veterans Room.
Aubry’s project is part of her work toward achieving the Girl Scout Gold Award, the organization’s highest honor. Her efforts were recognized by a local television station, which interviewed her for a Memorial Day news segment highlighting the importance of preserving veterans’ stories.
“We were thrilled with the turnout and community engagement this weekend,” said Randy Ray, President of the Leeds Historical Society. “Both events reflected our mission—to preserve the stories of Leeds and ensure they are shared with future generations.”
For more information on the Society’s programs, museum hours, or how to become a member or volunteer, please visit www.leedshistoricalsociety.org or follow the Leeds Historical Society on Facebook.
