Knights of Columbus Leeds Council 5597 held City of Valor Veterans Celebration
The Knights of Columbus Leeds Council 5597 held their annual City of Valor Veterans Day Celebration at Leeds Memorial Park on Monday November 11. A large group gathered at Noon for the celebration and Dr. Bill Watkins, Knights of Columbus Council #5597, presided over the event. Leeds Valley Church Pastor Nate Farrow led an opening prayer. The American Heritage Girls led the Pledge of Allegiance followed by Miss Leeds Area Samantha Hennings singing the National Anthem. Mayor David Miller spoke to the crowd about our liberties here in America and the fight for freedom. A memorial wreath, donated by Sharon Bailey with Kay’s Florist, was placed by Past Grand Knight Terry Taylor, and as part of the program in honor of and in memory of those who have served in the military, names were read aloud that had been submitted all during the year for recognition as follows:
Army: Greg Patterson, Floyd Byers, Doug Harley, Earnest Easters, Thorn Hendrix, Dr. Micheal Rowland, Emmett F. Roberts, Otis T. Reach, Frank Phillips, Doug Phillips, David Wawierina, Terrel Nall and Frank Vance, III. Navy: Marvin Brooks, James Watkins, Win Owens, Chris Schernak, Neil Blackfield, Leevon Stubbs, H. P. Leeds High School Band Director, Chip Wise, played Taps. After the event, different groups had their pictures made.
“The American Heritage Girls from metro area troops representing Our Lady of Sorrows Church, Our Lady of the Valley Church, and Mt. Laurel, were honored to serve at today’s Leeds Veterans Day Ceremony,” shared Andrea Donovan, Troop Coordinator AL-1478 (Our Lady of Sorrows).

2nd Annual Veterans Pancake Breakfast was a Great Time in Leeds, Alabama
The second annual community-wide Veterans Day Pancake Breakfast on Veterans Day was a great time of celebrating our City of Valor, honoring our Veterans and building community. We had a good crowd and pancakes were cooked fresh with all the toppings along with a coffee bar served free to the public. Donations were not required, but any received was donated to the American Legion Post 107 Leeds to support their many efforts to serve the local veterans and our local community. Thank you to Leeds Main Street, Leeds Area Chamber of Commerce, Leeds Historical Society, Stratford Real Estate, Livery Event Center, Straight Mountain Catering, Casey Parsons Guild Mortgage, Redmont Vodka/Charles Barkley and other small businesses and individual sponsors who worked together to make this happen.
November is Military Family Appreciation Month
Each November, Military Family Appreciation Month (MFAM) honors and acknowledges the sacrifices and contributions military Families make in support of their loved ones serving our country. This occasion is an opportunity to recognize and express gratitude for the resilience, strength, and support that military Families provide so that Soldiers can successfully perform their critical duties.

Leeds Area Chamber of Commerce, the City of Leeds, Alabama, and Leeds business professionals met at Buddy's Home Furnishings today for a ribbon cutting to celebrate their re-grand opening and chamber membership. Mayor David Miller cut the ribbon with store Manager, Randy Fallon and his staff. Buddy's Home Furnishings is more than a rental business. Leeds City Schools
2 amazing grants, thanks to these 2 amazing teachers: Mr. Argo & Mrs. Gilmore. This week the Alabama Power Foundation dropped off a check to both Leeds Elementary School and Leeds High School. At LHS, the $7500 grant will provide graphing calculators for all LHS students for standardized testing such as the state administered ACT and AP exams. Students can also check them out to use for Saturday ACT dates when they are taking the ACT on their own. At LES, the $7500 grant will allow the 5th-grade students to complete the Hovercraft Project again this year. This incredible experience is set for February.

Woman’s Literary Club of Leeds
Leeds Police Chief Paul Irwin was the speaker this week at the Woman's Literary Club of Leeds meeting. The Club presented Chief Irwin a beautiful collection of stuffed animals to give children in situations where it is calming for the upset child. These ladies present toys each year for the police department to have as needed. This is just one of the charity projects that this Club adopts each year.

Leeds Cruising for Toys
Bring Toys for a Chance to Win $500 at Leeds 2024 Cruising for Toys Charity Cruise-In – The Fourth Annual Leeds Cruising for Toys, a cruise-in for a cause, is scheduled for Saturday, November 23 beginning at Noon on Parkway Drive in downtown Leeds, Alabama.
This event is open to all cars, trucks and bikes. Admission is at least one unwrapped toy or donation. Bring your unwrapped toy to enter a drawing to win $500 cash. Every toy you bring will grant you a ticket toward the chance to win $500 CASH. You must be present to win and the more toys you bring, the better chance you have to take home the cash!
This is a toy drive and fundraiser to benefit children and teens through Leeds Outreach to provide Christmas for needy families.
A cruise-in, 50-50 and door prizes are planned for an afternoon fun for all ages so bring your favorite vehicle and your family to enjoy a great time together for a great cause!
To pre-register your vehicle in the cruise-in, please contact Chris McCombs at (205) 365-7412 or Christy McCombs at (205) 283-0952.
Vehicles will cruise in on Saturday between the hours of Noon and 3:00 p.m. to drop off their toys and donations on the Parkway between 8th and 9th Streets. From there, the cars, trucks and bikes will line the streets beginning at 8th Street.
The Cruising for Toys event is sponsored and hosted by Leeds Area Chamber of Commerce, City of Leeds and C & C Motor Company. A High resolution flyer is available for you to share and display in your place of business at leedsareachamber.com.
This group is accepting unwrapped toys, monetary donations and items for door prizes. Let’s all work together to make this a great Christmas for many children! Leeds Historical Society
The Bass’ had a blast hanging out at the house and learning how Leeds has changed over the last hundred years. They packed up and headed back to Forest Hill Cemetery in Birmingham. Please let us know if you enjoyed their visit and would like to see them again next year. Meanwhile, the Bass House is open once a month, and the Leeds Historical Society hosts events throughout the year. Nov. 24th is the next opening. You’re always welcome to schedule a tour for groups. Community Outreach | The Episcopal Church of the Epiphany
We’re known around the community as the church with the big red box. This is our blessing box. The blessing box is where all may be blessed, those that have needs and those who have something to share. The church fills it, our members fill it, and the community fills it. There are no restrictions on who may take food from the box. Anyone who is hungry is welcome. Our only request is that those who need food take just enough for a day or two and leave some for others. In addition to the blessing box, have a free library. Leave a book. Take a book. (Children’s books are very popular.) As part of our food ministry, Epiphany also supports Leeds Outreach Because some of our members encouraged us, we also support The Wellhouse and The Lovelady Center, and other charities that speak to any of our members from time to time.
