Leeds Community-Wide Thanksgiving Service!

The Leeds Community-wide Thanksgiving Service was held on Monday night at Leeds First Baptist Church. This multi-church event brought people from all area churches to worship together as we turn our hearts toward Thanksgiving and the many blessings that God has bestowed upon each of us. Each pastor/church leader shared a few words from their heart and prayed a prayer of Thanksgiving. FBC Leeds Pastor Steven Weems welcomed everyone and others who took part in the service including pastors and leaders from Cedar Grove Baptist Church, the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany, Mosaic Chapel, Little Rock Missionary Baptist Church, Leeds First Methodist Church, The Tower of Prayer Church and Valley View Baptist Church. Donations were received for Leeds Outreach. After the service, a fellowship time was provided that also included professionals trained in grief management/recovery who were on hand to introduce themselves and make their services available for anyone who knew of someone who might need this care during the holidays. It was a great evening of worship and building community in the spirit of thanksgiving.

Veterans Day in the City of Valor

Veterans Day was a big deal in Leeds, Alabama this year. As you know, Leeds is the only US city per capita with three Congressional Medal of Honor recipients. These Veterans include SSG Henry E. “Red” Erwin, First Lt. William R. Lawley, Jr., and PFC Alford L. McLaughlin. Leeds is home to a host of other Veterans who have also sacrificed for the freedoms we enjoy every day. We truly appreciate the service of each of our Veterans.

City of Valor Veterans Day Pancake Breakfast

The first annual City of Valor Veterans Day Pancake Breakfast held at Rails & Ales was a fundraiser with volunteers serving approximately 120 breakfast plates. People brought photos of their Veterans to display on the Wall of Valor. If you did not have an opportunity to bring your photo, you may bring a 5x7 photo of your Leeds Veteran so they can join the display. This will be a permanent honor spot for all Leeds Veterans! $1215 was raised and proceeds were donated to our American Legion Post 107 Leeds for their charities. This event was sponsored by Leeds Main Street, Leeds Area Chamber of Commerce, Rails & Ales, Stratford Real Estate and Leeds Historical Society.

Veterans Day Wreath Ceremony

The traditional Veterans Day Wreath Ceremony was held at Leeds Memorial Park hosted by the Knights of Columbus Leeds Council #5597. The speaker was Deacon Neil Kay. Presenting the floral arrangement was Deputy Grand Knight Keith Kennedy on the left and Dr. Bill Watkins, past Grand Knight. We encourage everyone to attend this special ceremony each Veterans Day and Memorial Day.

The American Legion Post 107 Leeds Veterans Day

2023. The American Legion Post 107 Leeds has made some awesome floats over the years for the annual Veterans Day Parade in Birmingham. Veterans Day was also celebrated at the Post with a fish fry.
