Leeds High School Greenwave Band News

Congratulations to The Pride of the Greenwave band for winning best in class at Pinson Valley’s contest Saturday! Leeds High School

The Pride of the Green Wave Marching Band has been invited to perform at Pearl Harbor in March of 2024.  LHS Band Director, Chip Wise, was commissioned by the City of Leeds to compose a musical piece for the city to honor the three Congressional Medal of Honor recipients that called Leeds home.  The piece is entitled, “City of Valor”.  The band will perform the piece at the Pearl Harbor concert entitled, “Remembering the Heroes”, on March 26, 2024. This is an extraordinary once in a lifetime opportunity for our high school band to perform a musical piece that was specially written to honor our city, our community, and most importantly to honor our very own Medal of Honor recipients. It is a huge honor that the students will get to travel to such an iconic and historical place and perform something so special for the Leeds community and to continue to honor the veterans that have laid down their lives for our country. Leeds High School Band Boosters are actively working to raise money for all seventy-five of the students to be able to take this incredible trip and be a part of such an exciting endeavor. The Boosters and Staff want every student to have this once in a lifetime trip, however many of them cannot afford the cost. The goal is to raise at least $200,000 which would enable each student to travel at very little cost.  Read full article about this spectacular trip and how you can help at: https://everyoneleeds.com/leeds-high-school-marching-band-to-perform-at-pearl-harbor/

First, third grade parents will have the opportunity to attend an Alabama Literacy Act meeting that will outline the steps of promotion for all third grade students. Third grade parent attendance is HIGHLY ENCOURAGED as we will be discussing things that may prevent your child from being promoted to fourth grade as well as the steps we are taking here at the school to support your child. You will also have the opportunity to ask questions and be provided resources for reading and math. This meeting will begin at 6:10 PM in the cafeteria. (Concluding this meeting, students and parents in Ms. Osborne's class are welcome to visit their child's classroom for a "Meet the Teacher" event.) Additionally, from 6-8 PM families can visit classrooms at each grade level for different math and science games. Each grade level will host four different rooms and families are welcome to try the activities at every grade level. Our PTO will have snacks and merch available for purchase. If you haven't had an opportunity to grab some Leeds gear, now is the time! Finally, we will have our library open so that parents and students have an opportunity to visit the BOOK FAIR!
