My Story Town Event This Week at Leeds Fire & Rescue
Tuesday was our second My Story Town event under the direction of Annette McGuire and Leeds Jane Culbreth Library. Our tour this month was with Leeds Fire & Rescue and we visited Leeds Fire Station 1 on Park Drive. Our firefighters shared information with the children and adults about home and fire safety, what a firefighter does, about the equipment that a firefighter uses and so much more. One of the firefighters put on the fire safety suit for everyone to see each layer of clothing that he wears to keep him safe when he is working to put out fires and going into a burning building to rescue people and their pets. Everyone saw that firefighters have to wear lots of equipment to protect themselves.
Mr. Randy Ray of the Leeds Historical Society is our My Story Town historian. We learned from him how Leeds is the City of Valor, that our firefighters have valor and we can, too. My Story Town is a wonderful new program that teaches us more about our awesome city and helps us continue to "build community" as we learn more about Leeds, the people and places of Leeds and the history of Leeds.
Approximately 30 people participated in this month's event. Children brought their My Story Town Passports with them and they received a MST Sticker to put in their passport to commemorate this event. Children also received a button to begin their My Story Town button collection.

Ann's New Life Center Leeds Welcomes Lucian!
Ann's New Life Center welcomes a new baby boy last week. Lucian was born at 33 weeks weighing 5 pounds. Mom says he is doing great! Lucian is truly a gift from God. We appreciate the work that Ann's New Life does here in Leeds. If you are not familiar with this local non-profit, we invite you to visit them soon. They offer so much help to expectant parents including parenting classes, the opportunity to earn while you learn to purchase items in Ann's baby store that these parents will need to take care of their babies. If you would like to be part of this exciting work, there are volunteer and sponsorship opportunities.

Leeds Cruising for Toys, cruise-in for a cause, is scheduled for Saturday, October 29, 2022 beginning at 1:00 pm in downtown Leeds, Alabama. This event is open to all cars, trucks and bikes. Admission: an unwrapped toy or donation. Bring unwrapped toy to enter drawing to win $500 cash. This is a toy drive and fundraiser to benefit children and teens through Leeds Outreach to provide Christmas for needy families. Cruise-In | 50-50 | Door Prizes | Food Trucks. Leeds Area Chamber of Commerce announces Leeds Downtown Trick or Treat 2022 scheduled for Monday, October 31. Downtown Trick or Treating provides safe and fun event for all children in our area to participate in each year and all businesses in the greater Leeds area are encouraged to participate. As always, our Trick or Treating hours will be from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM. You do not have to be a Chamber Member to participate in this event and there is no fee to participate as a vendor – just plan to bring LOTS OF CANDY.
