Drayer Physical Therapy Ribbon Cutting for New Location

The City of Leeds and the Leeds Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting at Drayer Physical Therapy Institute on Friday, September 23 in celebration of their new location at 7480 Parkway Drive, Suite 128, Leeds.  Leeds Councilman, Johnny Dutton, cut the ribbon along with a host of city leaders and Drayer PT personnel.  For more information about Drayer Physical Therapy Institute, please visit www.drayerpt.com.

Moton Center Receives $50k T-Mobile Grant

Knights of Columbus Leeds Council #5597 Presents American Flags to Local Businesses

Knights of Columbus Leeds Council #5597 presented an American Flag to Laney's Country Cooking in honor and memory of family members and friends of Laney's owners and staff.  Those honored were Harold Olmstead - Airforce POW, Greg Patterson - Army, Floyd Byers - Army and Marvin Brooks - Army and Navy.

Knights of Columbus Leeds Council #5597 also presented an American Flag to Smith Printing in honor and memory of family members of Smith Printing Owner, Randy Smith.  Those honored were Randy's grandfather, Lee Smith - WWII Army and uncle, Guss Smith - WWII Army.

Names of all honored at each business will be acknowledged again at the Veterans Day event at Leeds Memorial Park and on Memorial Day. The Knights would like to thank Leeds Lowe's for their generous donations of the flags.

WoodmenLife Donates to Leeds Outreach

Woodmen Leeds Outreach Donation 2022

WoodmenLife made a donation to Leeds Outreach last week.  Sandra McGuire, Leeds Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, presented the check in the amount of $500 to Beverly Riddlesperger, Leeds Outreach Director.  WoodmenLife, formerly known as Woodmen of the World, is a not-for-profit fraternal benefit society founded in 1890 that operates a large privately held insurance company for its members.

Leeds Paving Projects Continue

City of Leeds paving projects continue.  We were all excited to see a fresh coat of pavement on Parkway Drive this week.  As you know, the 2022 Paving Project began early September and should be completed in a few days.  This project is approximately $1.4 million worth of paving.  You can see the streets being resurfaced at https://arcg.is/1GHe8S

If you have trouble accessing the map, here is a list of the streets to be paved: Martin Luther King Drive, Cahaba Avenue, Georgia Avenue, Moores Street, Skinner Avenue, Self Street, Lyle Avenue, Linden Street, Baker Avenue, Allen Street, Faye Street, Section of Railroad Avenue, Section of Green Haven Way, Courson Boulevard, Dorough Avenue, Section of Beech Street, Walnut Street, Sim Street and Section of Mountain View Lane.

City of Leeds Sidewalk Work

City of Leeds sidewalk projects move forward.  The next area of sidewalks to be improved are in the downtown area.  As you drive down the Parkway this week, you will see sidewalks being torn up and new sidewalks installed.

Here's a photo at the corner of 9th and Thornton where work is being done.

We are excited to see continual improvements to our city.

Arsenic & Old Lace Begins Friday at Leeds Arts Council

Leeds Arts Council presents a classic comedy by Joseph Kesselring, Arsenic & Old Lace which begins this Friday, September 30 and runs through October 9.  Get your tickets now before it's too late....purchase tickets at lac.booktix.com or at the door.

Grand RiverFest | The Outlet Shops of Grand River

The Outlet Shops of Grand River in Leeds announces the Grand RiverFest fall event scheduled for Sunday, October 9, 2022 from 12:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. in the front parking lot. This one-day festival marketplace will host arts, crafts, food trucks, balloon art, face painting, bounce house, fashion and so much more! A new addition to the festival will include Zone Mobile Entertainment Gaming Theater from Huntsville, AL. This 50-foot gaming truck will provide kid friendly games such as Mario Kart, Madden, NBA 2K, Fortnight, Minecraft, Just Dance and many more.

We will have a superhero, Spider Man and several Enchanted Princesses like Tiana, Anna & Mirabel for the interaction with the children. The Mad Hatter will perform some balloon twisting for the children.

Leeds Area Chamber of Commerce announces Leeds Downtown Trick or Treat 2022 scheduled for Monday, October 31. Downtown Trick or Treating provides safe and fun event for all children in our area to participate in each year and all businesses in the greater Leeds area are encouraged to participate.  As always, our Trick or Treating hours will be from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM. You do not have to be a Chamber Member to participate in this event and there is no fee to participate as a vendor – just plan to bring LOTS OF CANDY. If your company is not located in the designated downtown area, you may sign up to participate and be issued a designated space to set up.
