You're Invited to a Special Birthday Party Celebrating the 138th Birthday of the City of Leeds
The Leeds Historical Society is pleased to invite the community to a special celebration marking the 138th anniversary of the incorporation of the City of Leeds, which officially became a town on April 27, 1887.
The event will take place on Sunday, April 27, 2025, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at the Leeds Historical Society Museum, located at the J.W. Bass House, 1129 Montevallo Road, Leeds, AL 35094.
This family-friendly celebration will honor the city’s rich heritage and the generations of citizens who have shaped its story. Guests will enjoy:
- Guided tours of the Bass House Museum
- Special displays highlighting Leeds history
- A brief program recognizing community partners and supporters
- Light refreshments on the grounds
The celebration also provides an opportunity to thank the City of Leeds for their recent support in upgrading the museum’s infrastructure, including the replacement of the HVAC system — a key improvement in preserving the city's treasured history.
“We’re proud to celebrate Leeds’ past while continuing to preserve its legacy for future generations,” said Randy Ray, President of the Leeds Historical Society. “This is a great chance for residents and visitors alike to connect with the stories that make Leeds a unique and vibrant place.”
The Leeds Historical Society encourages everyone to stop by, bring a friend, and help honor 138 years of community, progress, and pride.
Drive Out ALS Car Show Rolls into Leeds, April 26
A Fun-Filled Event with a Powerful Purpose at The Shops of Grand River
Get ready to rev your engines for a cause that truly matters! The 6th Annual Drive Out ALS Car Show will take place on Saturday, April 26, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the front parking lot of The Shops of Grand River in Leeds. Hosted by Miss Hoover 2025, Emma Terry, in partnership with The Shops of Grand River, this incredible event will be a great day of cool cars, community, and compassion.
All types of vehicles including classic and contemporary cars, Jeeps, trucks, and motorcycles are invited to participate in this incredible outdoor charity event that welcomes everyone who enjoys cars, supports the cause, or seeks a great Saturday activity.
“The event holds a special place in my heart,” according to Emma Terry who serves as the event organizer and dedicated ALS supporter. “My Grandy spent his time restoring classic cars and attending cruise-ins until his ALS diagnosis. The event serves as my tribute to him while I continue my mission against ALS. Don’t worry about making plans for April 26—you’ve already got some!”
All proceeds benefit the ALS Association through Emma’s Steps for Stewart: Stomping Out ALS Community of Hope Fund. These funds directly support ALS patients and their families by helping provide critical equipment, supplies, and support services.

Leeds Community Cleanup this Saturday
Join the City of Leeds for a Day of Service, Sustainability, and Community Pride
In celebration of Earth Day, the City of Leeds invites residents, families, and local organizations to participate in the Leeds Earth Day Community Cleanup on Saturday, April 26. This year’s cleanup is scheduled the weekend after Easter to maximize community participation and ensure a fun, impactful day for all.
Event Details:
📍 Check-In Location: 8373 1st Avenue (empty field across from Kinetic)
🕣 Check-In Time: 8:30 a.m.
🕘 Cleanup Time: 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
🌧 Rain or Shine
Volunteers will be provided with gloves, pickers, safety vests, and trash bags to help clear trash, debris, and litter from around the city. The event is open to all ages, and everyone is encouraged to bring friends and family to help make a visible difference in our community. Start your morning with breakfast biscuits generously sponsored by Chick-fil-A (while supplies last), and enjoy a chance to check out real police and fire vehicles on-site for a special community showcase.
“We’re proud to host this annual event that brings our citizens together for a great cause,” said Leeds Mayor David Miller. “It’s amazing what we can accomplish when we work side by side to keep Leeds clean and beautiful.”

Cahaba River Society and Sweet Home Spirits
This past Saturday, we teamed up with our friends at Sweet Home Spirits during their Earth Day Fest, and the impact was incredible! 🌟 16 volunteers rolled up their sleeves 🗑️ 776 pounds of trash removed from the Little Cahaba 💧 Over $500 raised to support river conservation 🎶 Hours of live music, community, and celebration We’re so grateful for everyone who came out to make a difference. We had a BLAST! Huge thanks to Sweet Home Spirits for being a stellar partner in protecting the Cahaba.
The Rocking Chair Art Project Results Are In!
We are so thankful for each artist who took part in our Rocking Chair Art Project in downtown Leeds! Their creativity, time, and talent brought beauty, energy, and so much color to our community, and we couldn’t be more grateful.

It's time to register for 2025-26 Kindergarten!
Kindergarten Registration details are up! It's Time for Kindergarten Registration! If your child will be 5 on or before September 1, 2025, then they are eligible to attend kindergarten. We are having Kindergarten Registration at LPS on Tuesday, April 22nd, and Monday, April 28th. Both days will be from 4 pm-6 pm. The registration is 100% online, however, we want to meet your child, so follow the link, fill out the online registration, and we hope to see you at one of our two in-person events. Students who are currently in our Pre-K program do not need to attend; you will get further instruction at a later time.
