More Exciting News at Exit 140! City of Leeds launches New Traffic Signal Project!

The City of Leeds is excited to announce that work has begun on a new traffic signal installation project at Exit 140, at the end of the I-20 East off-ramp. This long-awaited improvement is designed to enhance traffic flow and significantly increase safety for drivers turning west onto Highway 78 toward The Shops at Grand River.

This project follows closely on the heels of the recently completed LED lighting upgrade at Exit 140, where all lights were replaced with energy-efficient LED fixtures—making this intersection one of the few in the state with 100% operational lighting. The combination of improved lighting and this new traffic signal marks a major leap forward for infrastructure at one of the city’s most traveled entry points.

Mayor David Miller shared:
“That’s been a trouble spot for quite a while. As you come off of the interstate going east and head toward the outlet mall or Buc-ee’s, you basically take your life in your hands trying to meet one car at a time across that intersection. There were no lights—it was a bad arrangement. Just to let you know, we now have approved funding and we’ll be starting quickly on the new traffic arrangement. This will include a computerized light that makes it a lot easier for us to get a lot of cars across there without people stacking up.”

This new computerized signal will not only alleviate congestion but also improve the overall experience for shoppers, commuters, and visitors. The City of Leeds is also working closely with The Shops at Grand River and other stakeholders to ensure the smooth execution of this project.

🚧 Construction has already begun—please be aware of any temporary traffic changes in the area.

Leeds Outreach

One of the primary goals of Leeds Outreach is to have a positive impact on the quality of life of our clients. What began as a few churches getting together in 1994 to form a volunteer organization to meet the benevolent needs of the Leeds area called Leeds Welfare Cooperative has become Leeds Outreach, a 501c3 non-profit organization that helps families in Leeds, Alabama with food, utilities, medicine, school supplies, and Christmas assistance. For over 30 years, Leeds Outreach has worked solely with volunteers and to date has no paid staff members, rent or other bills so 100% of your donation goes directly to assisting those in need throughout our community. We invite you to partner with us by your monetary or food donations as well as consider joining our volunteer team to carry out this important work. Your support and contributions enable us to meet our goals. Your generous donation will fund our mission. Monetary donations allow us to buy what is needed, in the quantity needed, when needed! https://facebook.com/LeedsOutreach/ or at https://instagram.com/leedsoutreach/
